London Design Festival celebrates the city’s status as a global design capital.
Founded in 2003 by Sir John Sorrell CBE and Ben Evans CBE, the Festival was created to spotlight London’s creative energy. Their vision was to build on the city’s rich design culture by uniting leading thinkers, practitioners, retailers, and educators in an annual celebration of design. The first launch event took place at Bloomberg, drawing strong support from the design, education, government, and business sectors. Over two decades later, this mission remains central.
By 2019, the Festival welcomed over 600,000 visitors from more than 75 countries, reinforcing its international reach. In 2024, it marked its 22nd anniversary, highlighting its pivotal role in shaping London’s identity as a global hub for design, culture, and innovation. It has not only strengthened the UK’s creative reputation but also served as a model for design festivals worldwide.
